The Invasive Species Centre (ISC) is a leader in invasive species science, education and action and is recognized as a LEED Silver facility. The Invasive Species Centre aims to connect knowledge and technology to reduce the spread of invasive species that harm Canada’s environment, economy and society. The goal of this project was to modify their existing space to create a nationally renowned facility. This was achieved by renovating the existing space and designing an addition to the building.

The existing building functions primarily as a monitored laboratory facility, however there was a need to create a greater public presence so visitors could be educated on invasive species. The organization values sustainability, collaboration, credibility, and efficiency, all of which were integral in the design of the new space. The new facility’s envelope, ventilation systems, and control sequencing have been designed to the Canadian Bio-safety Standards achieving a certification of a containment level CL2 (PPC2).
