The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) facility has attained a LEED Gold standard through the incorporation of various sustainable design features for a reduction in energy consumption .

The current PUC building is the result of extensive an programming analysis to consolidate existing operations that had been located throughout the city of Sault Ste. Marie. Three different departments with their own distinctive programmatic requirements were to be amalgamated into one cohesive facility. Accomplishing this involved continuous discussions with the client to ensure the design was not only efficient, but satisfied the needs of each department.

The completed building successfully houses an administrative department, executive offices, engineering and administration functions. There is also a sector which is dedicated to the public and the corresponding administrative operations. This public section is housed in the building’s core and features a three storey atrium which allows natural light to flood interior spaces.
